Cockpits, Profiles and Logos

The Boeing 727 is a narrow-body short to medium range three engined jet airliner built from 1963 to 1984. The 727 was Boeings third jetliner after the 707 & 720 sharing the 707’snose, cockpit and upper fuselage. The design was a compromise as between a two engined aircraft required by domestic US airlines and three engines required for overwater flight. As twin engined aircraft were limited to 60 minutes from a diversion aircraft, three engines were chosen. With high lift devices on the wings, the aircraft could use shorter runwaysthan earlier jets. For over a decade more 727s were built than any other jetliner with production ending with 1,832 built, this was the highest number of jet airliners built until surpassedby the 737 in the early 1990s.
