Handley Page Halifax B.Mk.III NR169 code HD-T served with 466 Squadron Royal Australian Air Force and undertook 51 raids over Germany during World War II whilst based at Driffield in England.

After the war NR169 was sold to Geoffrey Wikner and converted to a passenger carrying aircraft. The aircraft was given the civilian registration G-AGXA and named “Waltzing Matilda”. The aircraft made the first successful civilian flight between the UK and Australia in May 1946 flown by Mr Wikner as Captain and Miss Audrey Morgan, an ex Air Transport Auxiliary (ATA) pilot. The aircraft was sold in Australia to Aircarriers Pty Ltd and registered as VH-BDT, but unfortunately the aircraft only undertook one revenue flight between Sydney and Singapore. The aircraft flew back to Sydney empty and never flew again.
