Embraer Aircraft
Embraer S.A. is a Brazilian company that designs and builds military, executive, commercial and agricultural aircraft and is based in Sao Paulo.
Empresa Brasileira de Aeronautica (Embraer) was created by the Brazilian Government in 1969 to develop turboprop passenger aircraft.
The first aircraft developed by the company was the EMB 110 Bandeirante, a small general purpose 15 to 21 passenger light transport aircraft, it is used by both civil and military operators.
until 1975 Embraer only sold to the domestic market but its products were in demand internationally and the company started to export aircraft, today being the worlds third largest civil aircraft manufacturer.
During the 1970s the company licence built the Aermacchi MB-326 light military jet trainer and designed the EMB 312 Tucano turboprop military trainer and light attack aircraft.
In 1985 the company introduced the EMB 120 Brasilia twin turboprop commuter aircraft especially for the export market.
The EMB 145 jet airliner was announced at the 1989 Paris airshow, initially as a stretch of the EMB 120 Brasilia, however this soon was changed to a new design with the engines mounted on the rear fuselage. The aircraft was designed to seat a maximum of 50 passengers, the 145 had a smaller sibling of the EMB 135 which was very similar but with a shorter fuselage. The 135 is also the base for Legacy 600 business jet.
In 1999 the company launched the EJet series of short haul airliners to compete with the smaller members of the Boeing 737 and Airbus A320 families. The EJet has four models, increasing in size, the 170, 175, 190 & 195.
The EJet has been developed into the EJet E2 with new engines.
