The de Havilland DH98 Mosquito wash a twin engined mid winged aircraft used in the fighter, bomber and fighter/bomber roles.

The aircraft was the worlds first multi role aircraft. In the mid 1930’s de Havilland had a reputation for innovative high-speed aircraft including the DH88 Comet and DH91 Albatross. During 1938 a specification called for a medium bomber built out of non strategic materials. Based on his experience with high speed designs Geoffrey de Havilland proposed a small bomber with good aerodynamic design and smooth minimal skin area. This resulted in the DH98 to be powered by two Rolls Royce Merlin engines with the aircraft constructed from timber. The resulting DH98 exceeded the specifications but was delayed due to other pressing aircraft construction projects. The project only started moving forward quickly in 1940 with the prototype flying on 25th November.
