The Airbus A350 XWB is a family of long-range, wide-body, twin-engined airliners built by Airbus. The A350 is the first Airbus aircraft with both fuselage and wing structures primarily built of carbon fibre reinforced polymer. TheA350 is intended to replace the four engined A340 and compliment the A330 NEO family. The aircraft’s main rivals being the Boeing 777X and 787.The A350 has had a long development, initially it was to have the A330 fuselage mated with a new wing, however this was changed to an all new wider fuselage due to pressure from airline customers. The new fuselage section wasnamed the Extra Wide Body, or XWB for short. The aircraft is powered by the Rolls-Royce Trent XWB, a development of the Trent engine with newer materials and a larger fan. The first flight of the A350 took place on 14th June 2013from Toulouse, France and the aircraft entered service with Qatar Airways on 22nd December 2014. To date over 880 have been ordered. There are two members of the family, the -900 and the stretched -1000.
